Zoo holds a day in the life
THE Shanghai Zoo is holding a "biodiversity in life" day today. Visitors will be able to observe different breeds of creatures under the guidance of experts from 7am to 9pm.
In the morning, the emphasis will be on birds and insects. Plant breeds will feature before lunch. In the afternoon, aquatic creatures will be the center of attention while, at night, visitors will be able to watch nocturnal animals, such as bats, and trap insects with lights.
The aim is to educate visitors on biodiversity and the need to improve the environment for endangered species.
In China, the need to protect endangered species is especially urgent. Of 6,000 species on a list of creatures in peril, about half are native to China, the zoo said.
