Zoo鈥檚 night tour proving popular
SHANGHAI Zoo plans to increase the number of night tours this summer after tickets for this weekend’s first two tours sold out quickly.
The night tour is one of the most popular activities of the zoo, but it is restricted due to safety concerns and a lack of staff, the zoo operator said.
The zoo had scheduled 11 “Magic Night Tours” this summer, starting Saturday. Individuals can book the tours online.
Last year, only two tours were made available for individual buyers while the rest were taken up by organized groups.
Only families with children aged between 6 and 12 are eligible to apply. A maximum of 40 people are allowed on each tour, which runs only on weekends.
Ticket costs 200 yuan (US$32.25) each per person, including children.
The night excursions include trips to the giant panda pavilion as well.
“The demand for night tours exceeds our capacity, but we will try our best to accept more people,” said Pan Xiuwen, a zoo official.
“A shortage of staff and safety concerns are the major reasons why we have to limit the number of the tours,” she added.
The Chenshan Botanical Garden is also offering night tours which have proved popular. The Garden’s tour prices cost 399 yuan per person but the trip lasts for two days.
