Zoos raise their entry prices after feed costs increase
TICKET price for the two biggest zoos in the city will rise after the cost of feeding the animals and maintenance has soared, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.
Tickets to Shanghai Zoo will rise from 30 yuan (US$4.40) to 40 yuan, and visitors to Shanghai Wildlife Zoo in Nanhui District will now pay 120 yuan instead of 100 yuan.
Entrance prices were originally set more than five years ago, but feed costs have risen by two or three million yuan a year at Shanghai Wildlife Zoo, said an employee.
Shanghai Price Bureau said the zoos could increase their ticket costs from today, but the rise may be delayed after the National Development and Reform Commission banned ticket increases before the National Day holiday to stimulate tourism, according to the report.
