Han Zheng, Francis Gurry talk about IP protection
韩正会见世界知识产权组织总干事弗朗西斯•高锐一行

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met Francis Gurry, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and his delegation yesterday. He said the city’s boom in innovation is the result of intellectual property protection.

Han said Shanghai is accelerating its drive to become a global innovation center and is educating every member of the society about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights.

He said the aim of these initiatives is to protect and use intellectual properties according to the law. The Shanghai government just signed a new memorandum of understanding with WIPO, which marks a new start of cooperation between the two sides.

Gurry said WIPO has cooperated successfully with China and Shanghai. Innovation is not just technological invention but also system innovation. Shanghai has been a role model in protection of intellectual properties.

He said WIPO is keen to expand cooperation with Shanghai.

Shen Changyu, director of the State Intellectual Property Office, and Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhao Wen also joined the meeting.
