Han Zheng meets vice president of Cuba

SHANGHAI Party Secretary Han Zheng met Salvador Valdes Mesa, special envoy of Raul Castro, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, on Friday. Mesa is a politburo member of the Cuban Communist Party and vice president of Cuba.
Han said Cuba is a heroic country in the eye of Chinese people. The two countries treat each other like a brother and comrade.
He spoke highly of the achievements Cuba has made under the leadership of its Communist Party and he believed that Cuba will continue its socialist construction according to the resolutions adopted at the 7th National Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Han also briefed Menéndez on China’s economic achievements through reform and opening, stressing that China will stick to socialist development with Chinese characteristics.
Han said Shanghai and the Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba established sister city relationship 20 years ago and have carried out fruitful cooperation in economy and trade. Shanghai is keen to make greater contribution to the friendship between the two countries.
Mesa said Cuba and China have traditional friendship and mutual trust. He thanked Shanghai for helping Santiago de Cuba immediately after Hurricane Sandy struck the city.
He said the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban government hope to strengthen exchanges with Shanghai comrades to learn from each other and support each other in socialist development.
He added that the Cuban Communist Party’s 7th National Congress mapped out the path for future development. He hoped the Cuba-China relationship will grow stronger and their cooperation will further expand.
