Mayor: Shanghai is good for Merck’s development
为投资贸易创造更多便利 杨雄会晤默克集团执行董事会主席
SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Kenneth C. Frazier, chairman and CEO of German pharmaceutical company Merck Group, on July 21 and spoke highly of Merck’s decision to hold its executive board meeting in Shanghai.
Yang said Shanghai is undergoing a new round of economic restructuring. Merck is welcome to take advantage of the city’s good investment environment to promote its pharmaceutical and chemical businesses.
He said the construction of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is a national task. Its main purpose is to spearhead administrative reform and innovation in China. The city has reduced approval procedures for companies investing or doing business in Shanghai.
The mayor hoped foreign multinationals like Merck to seize opportunities brought by the free trade zone for faster business growth.
Frazier said it was the first time for Merck to hold its executive board meeting in Shanghai. This shows the company is giving high priority to Shanghai and the Chinese market.
He said the city is the focus of the world for its reform efforts in the FTZ and Merck is willing to cooperate with Chinese partners in bio-medicine, LCD materials and other fields.
Merck is one of the world’s oldest pharmaceutical and chemical companies and is also world’s biggest producer of materials for flat panel displays.
