Mayor meets company leaders to stress Internet finance

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Robin Li Yanhong, Baidu.com founder, chairman and CEO, George Sartorel, regional CEO of Allianz Asia Pacific, Zhang Lei, founder, chairman and CEO of HillHouse Capital last week.
Yang welcomed these companies’ participation in Internet financial industry development.
He said that the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone will be developing coordinately with Shanghai’s efforts to become an international financial center, which is a key opportunity for Shanghai’s development.
Yang added that Shanghai is actively implementing the Chinese central government’s 40 guidelines on the FTZ’s financial reform.
The mayor noted that Internet finance has great development potentials and is a key component of the city’s efforts to become an international financial center. Companies in Internet finance have gathered in Huangpu District.
Yang pledged that the Shanghai government will follow the supervision and guide of the central government agencies, strive to build a more open and innovative financial market system, further improve the supervision and market system and welcome more outstanding companies and institutions to explore new businesses, new modes and new products in Shanghai.
The guests said that the world economy is fast changing and the Internet, big data and cloud-computing have brought challenges to traditional industries and provided huge innovation opportunities.
They said that Shanghai has first-class business environment, advanced development ideas and well-developed financial industry. They hoped to participate in the development of Shanghai’s Internet finance industry and sustainable innovation.
