Mayor receives chairman of Central Denmark Region
杨雄会见丹麦中部大区主席 拓展科教文化领域合作

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Bent Hansen, chairman of Central Demark Region on September 15. He said both countries are marking the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship this year and the chairman’s visit shows his region gives priority to bilateral ties.

Yang said Danish author Han Christian Anderson’s fairy tales and the statue of the Mermaid are well known to Shanghai people. Shanghai and Central Demark Region have cooperated well in food safety and health care and other areas after they established sister-city relationship.

The mayor said Shanghai will continue to cooperate and share experiences with Central Denmark Region in coping with challenges of an aging population and food safety hazards.

He said Shanghai is developing the free trade zone and is striving to become a global innovation center. These create more opportunities for cooperation. The Shanghai government will follow the agreement it signed with Central Denmark Region administration last year and expand cooperation in science and technology, education and culture.

Hansen said that Central Denmark Region held a big event in May to celebrate the 65th anniversary of China-Denmark diplomatic relationship. The region is keen to broaden exchanges and cooperation with Shanghai in health care, food safety and other areas within the framework of China-Denmark friendly relationship.

Danish Consul General in Shanghai Nicolai Prytz was present at the meeting.
