Mayor talks with Andrew Yao on HK-Shanghai cooperation
深化沪港合作交流 杨雄会见沪港经济发展协会会长姚祖辉一行

SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Andrew Yao, chairman of the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, yesterday and briefed Yao and his group on the city’s economic and social development.

Yang said Shanghai and Hong Kong have cooperated fruitfully for many years. The association has played a key role in promoting cooperation between the two cities in the past 30 years.

He said Shanghai is taking advantage of the expansion of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone to accelerate reform and opening. The city is working hard to transform into an innovation-driven economy and a global innovation center.

The mayor underlined the Shanghai-Hong Kong cooperation to promote yuan’s internationalization and asked the association to continue to work for mutual prosperity of the two cities.

Yao said the association celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and is cooperating with Lingnan University, Hong Kong to establish the Shanghai-Hong Kong research center which will focus on economic policies and issues of free trade zones and yuan’s convertibility.

He said the association will organize seminars on economic cooperation and exchanges between the two cities.

Shanghai leader Sha Hailin joined the meeting.
