SHANGHAI Mayor Yang Xiong met Andrew Yao, chairman of the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, yesterday and briefed Yao and his group on the city’s economic and social development.

Yang said Shanghai and Hong Kong have cooperated fruitfully for many years. The association has played a key role in promoting cooperation between the two cities in the past 30 years.

The mayor underlined the Shanghai-Hong Kong cooperation to promote yuan’s internationalization and asked the association to continue to work for mutual prosperity of the two cities.

Yao said the association celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and is cooperating with Lingnan University, Hong Kong to establish the Shanghai-Hong Kong research center which will focus on economic policies and issues of free trade zones and yuan’s convertibility.

He said the association will organize seminars on economic cooperation and exchanges between the two cities.
