Mayor talks with senior officials from Interpol

MAYOR Ying Yong met a delegation from the Interpol led by its president Meng Hongwei and secretary-general Jürgen Stock yesterday.

Ying told the guests that Shanghai is China’s economic center and a pioneer in reform and opening. The city is striving to become an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping as well as one of the safest metropolises in the world.

The mayor said Shanghai wants to strengthen cooperation with the Interpol in law enforcement and other affairs and help the Interpol in the global fight against crimes.

Meng and Stock said the Interpol is the world’s largest police organization and is devoted to making the world safer. Interpol looks for more cooperation with the Chinese government and local governments and wants to contribute to Shanghai’s rise as a global city.

Vice Minister of Justice Liu Zhiqiang and Vice Mayor of Shanghai and Public Security Bureau Director Bai Shaokang were also present at the meeting.
