MAYOR Ying Yong met Hermann Schützenhofer, governor of the Austrian state of Styria, on Monday and they signed a cooperation agreement in Shanghai.

Ying said Shanghai and Styria have enjoyed fruitful cooperation in economy, trade, health care and higher education.

Shanghai is gearing up its transformation into a global innovation center and will build up the framework in 2020. Styria is an innovation powerhouse in Europe. The two places should learn from each other and work together to address common challenges, the mayor said, adding that he hoped the new agreement will yield more fruits.

Schützenhofer said Styria is an Austrian state with a stronger capacity for research and innovation. It has produced many great scientists and innovators. Styria is keen to cooperate with Shanghai in many fields.

The governor hoped the two sides can deepen cooperation in areas of nursing service, tourism and culture.

Austrian Ambassador to China Irene Giner-Reichl also joined the meeting.
