Shanghai mayor meets the boss of Grammy Awards
推动音乐文化产业发展 杨雄会见美国录音学会客人

MAYOR Yang Xiong met Neil Portnow, president of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, best known for its Grammy Awards, and Xu Peidong, vice chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association, in Shanghai on July 9. They talked about the city’s music industry and its development.

Yang spoke highly of the California-based academy’s cooperation with Shanghai and thanked the Chinese Musicians Association for supporting the cooperation.

The mayor said Shanghai’s music industry has a long history and has produced many famous artists. Shanghai people are good audiences.

He said the city government is promoting the development of cultural industries, including the music industry and will create better environment for appreciation of music.

He said the academy’s Grammy Awards is world-famous. Shanghai wants to learn the latest techniques and business concepts in music production through cooperation with the academy and introduce Chinese artists and their works to the world.

Portnow said Shanghai is a great city and the Grammy Awards is a symbol of excellence. The academy will expand cooperation with partners in Shanghai.

Xu said he hoped Shanghai’s cooperation with the academy will help promote cultural exchanges between China and the United States and boost the development of China’s music industry.
