Ying Yong meets mayor of Dunedin from New Zealand
交流互鉴实现发展愿景 应勇会见新西兰达尼丁市市长

MAYOR Ying Yong met his counterpart from Dunedin, New Zealand, on Tuesday and told the visiting mayor Dave Cull that the two countries have cooperated well after they upgraded their relationship to comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014.

“Shanghai and Dunedin have been sister cities for 23 years. Both enjoy fruitful exchanges and cooperation,” Ying said.

He remarked that Shanghai is working hard to become an international center of economy, finance, trade and shipping by 2020, achieve core functions of a global innovation center by 2030, and develop into a global metropolis by 2040.

“Shanghai wants to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with cities around the world, including Dunedin, to attain its targets and bring win-win outcomes,” he added.

The mayor said Shanghai and Dunedin should learn from each other and expand cooperation in fields of culture, science and technology, and creative industries.

Cull said Dunedin and Shanghai have cooperated fruitfully since they became sister cities 23 years ago. Dunedin is keen to increase cooperation and exchanges with Shanghai in medicine, science and technology, culture and arts.

Guergana Guermanoff, New Zealand’s consul-general in Shanghai, was present at the meeting.
