ONE fisherman died and seven others were missing after their boat capsized off Nantong in east China's Jiangsu Province, local authorities said yesterday.
The boat, registered in Taizhou, eastern Zhejiang Province, encountered strong winds and high waves at about 4 am Monday and capsized, said captain Luo Wanxing, one of the five known survivors. All 13 fishermen aboard the boat were thrown into the water, Luo said.
Maritime authorities and troops in Taizhou are still searching for the missing, but their chances of survival are slim, Luo said.
According to Luo and local maritime affairs authorities, the accident occurred when the boat's propeller became entangled with unidentified objects.
