1 killed, 2 missing after tunnel collapses
A highway tunnel still under construction in central Hunan Province collapsed this morning, burying three workers.
The accident occurred around 4:20am at the site of the Qiaojiangyouyang Tunnel on the Huaixin Highway, which connects Hunan and its neighboring Guizhou Province, China National Radio reported today.
The Xupu County fire station sent two fire trucks and 14 firefighters to rescue workers trapped in the tunnel.
One was dug out but died despite emergency medical treatment. Firefighters are still searching for the other two missing workers, the report said.
