1 killed, 3 hurt in knife attack at Carrefour store
A WOMAN was killed and three people, including boys aged two and 12, were injured when a man attacked shoppers in a Beijing supermarket yesterday.
The middle-aged victim was pronounced dead at hospital following the attack at a Carrefour store about 11:40am.
The woman had suffered severe chest wounds, reported local media.
Injured in the attack were the two boys and a 24-year-old man. The two-year-old who suffered severe abdominal injuries was still in critical condition last night.
His distraught mother was seen weeping while waiting at the local children's hospital.
The 12-year-old boy was stabbed in the back, while the fourth victim received injuries to his chest and waist.
Police said the stabbings took place on the second level of the Carrefour store in the Maliandao area.
A suspect held at the scene was a 50-year-old Beijing resident, police said.
The store closed following the attack.
This was the third high-profile fatal knife attack in the capital since May.
Last Wednesday, a man with mental health problems from east China's Shandong Province fatally stabbed two pedestrians, including a foreigner, at a shopping mall.
And on May 4, a knife-wielding man in his 30s attacked drivers and passengers on a road ramp. Two of those attacked died in hospital.
