10 sailors missing as ships collide
CHINESE rescuers were searching for 10 sailors believed to be from North Korea yesterday after their cargo ship sank on Friday evening following a collision with another freighter off the coast of Qingdao, Shandong Province.
One sailor died in hospital and two others are in a serious condition, the Shandong Maritime Safety Bureau said.
The six other crew members were rescued and are fine, the spokesman said.
A total of 13 ships have been dispatched to search for the missing sailors, he said.
All 19 crew members are believed to be North Korean citizens, according to the spokesman.
The Panama-flagged freighter Oriental Sunrise sank after it collided with the Panama-flagged cargo ship Hamburg Bridge at 7:35pm on Friday.
