1,000 beautiful hands

CHINESE experts have completed the restoration of an 800-year-old Buddha statue in southwest China’s Chongqing City. The “Qianshou Guanyin,” or statue with 1,000 hands, was created during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) and is regarded as a masterpiece among the thousands of rock carvings in the grottoes of Dazu County. The restoration took seven years and 60 million yuan (US$9.7 million) to complete.
