100,000 evacuated after Chongqing bomb threat

NEARLY 100,000 residents in Chongqing Municipality were evacuated this morning after police received a bomb threat, Xinhua news agency reported.

No bomb was found after police cordoned off the area and carried out a three-hour search at a bus station in the city's Nan'an District.

Police received a call from a man around 8:30am, saying he put a bomb in Nanping Bus Hub Station and that it would explode in 30 minutes. After hanging up, he switched off the mobile, the report said.

Police evacuated the bus station and nearby buildings. A bomb squad was rushed to the scene to carry out a thorough search. No bomb was found and the caller may have made an empty threat, the report cited a government official as saying.

Police are still investigating the case.
