100,000 yuan reward to catch jail escapee

HEBEI Province police are offering a reward of 100,000 yuan (US$14,746) for any tips leading to the capture of an inmate who escaped from a detention house early yesterday.

Zhao Dong, 21, was 1.73-1.75 meters, slim and recently had a surgical operation on the right of his stomach, police told today's Hebei Youth Daily.

The report cited close sources as saying the detention house's chief had been removed after the breakout. But this was not confirmed by police.

Zhao was topless when escaped during a medical exam from a clinic at Handan Detention House.

Police didn't specify the reason for his detention.

Zhao, from northeast China's Jilin Province, was sentenced to 14 years for robbery in July 2008. His earlier criminal records started in February 2004.
