11 die in elevator fall
ELEVEN people died after an elevator at a hospital construction site in Meihekou City in northeast China's Jilin Province fell yesterday, local authorities said.
The elevator crashed from the sixth floor to the ground at 6:35am at the Aimin Hospital construction site.
The manager of Dongbei Jincheng Construction Co Ltd, the contractor, was taken into police custody and his bank account and assets frozen, said the publicity department of the municipal committee of the Communist Party of China in a statement.
The construction of the 12-story building has been completed and the workers were engaging in the exterior decoration while the accident happened, according to the statement.
The 11 people died after failing to respond to medical treatment.
Police are investigating the case. The site has been cordoned off.
