11 held over attack on government building

ELEVEN people have been detained for allegedly inciting more than 100 villagers to batter down the door of a government building in Datang Town, southern Guangdong Province, a government official said yesterday.
The suspects allegedly organized a rally on Monday after appealing to the government over the ownership of a pond, Guangzhou Daily reported.
The door was badly damaged in the attack, the report said, and 48 people were taken for questioning to the police station, after which 11 were detained.
Lu Zhixiong, a government official with Sanshui District of Foshan City, said they will face at least five years in prison if charged with assembling crowds to attack state institutions.
