11 jailed over prostitution at nightclub

Eleven people have been jailed for organizing prostitution at a nightclub in Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan Province.

Senior club executives Chen Jiagui and Wang Guofu were given life terms and their personal assets seized while another nine people involved were jailed from 10 to 15 years and fined up to a million yuan (US$161,226) at Xinxiang City Intermediate People’s Court.

All said that they would be appealing their sentences.

When the “A Number of Royal” nightclub opened in August 2012 more than 100 people paid 500,000 yuan each for membership, former marketing manager Wang Jie told the court, according to a report in the Democracy and Law Times newspaper.

Public relations manager Liu Fei said the nightclub had more than 1,000 girls working as prostitutes when it opened, the newspaper said.

The club had strict standards for prostitutes, it said, and five people had interviewed each one about their educational background and personal interests.

After they were recruited, they received etiquette training and body-shaping exercises. They were also ordered to dress and act like flight attendants when they were with customers, Liu said

Even the least popular girl could earn at least 100,000 yuan a month, Liu said.

The two bosses behind the nightclub had fled to US, the Democracy and Law Times reported, without giving details.

The court heard that local police weren’t informed when the club was raided by officers from neighboring Xinxiang in November, 2013.

Police detained 256 suspects and transferred 133 to judicial departments for prosecution.

Last April, eight senior police officials from Zhengzhou, including deputy police chief Zhou Xinting, were placed under “double designation,” a procedure in which Party members have to explain their wrongdoings at a designated time in a designated place.
