1,200 porn websites shut down
MORE than 1,200 websites have been forced to close under a crackdown on Internet pornography, the State Internet Information Office said yesterday.
The sites were closed for providing videos or photographs of a pornographic nature, or for providing links to such websites abroad, the office said in a statement.
About 2,200 pieces of text containing pornographic information have been deleted as a result of the “Cleaning the Web 2014” campaign, it said.
The campaign, which was launched in April and is scheduled to run through November, has been very effective, the office said, adding that more efforts will be taken to curb the spread of pornography on the Internet.
