1,215 dengue fever cases

SOUTH China’s Guangdong Province reported 1,215 new dengue fever cases on Friday, the local health authorities said yesterday. This brings the total number of cases in Guangdong to 18,866. These include four deaths: three in provincial capital Guangzhou and one in Foshan City, the provincial health and family planning commission said. The mosquito-borne disease has been detected in 19 out of 21 prefecture-level cities in Guangdong. Guangzhou has reported 15,912 cases, Foshan has 1,803, while Shenzhen has 76 cases. The outbreak is attributed to high temperatures and wet weather in Guangdong — with mosquito numbers five times the normal level.
