12kg of cocaine seized in Kowloon

Hong Kong police seized 12 kilograms of cocaine worth about HK$10.5 million (US$1.35 million) on Monday, police said yesterday.

According to a press release, officers of the Narcotics Bureau closely monitored a transnational drug trafficking syndicate actively involved in arranging cocaine from overseas to be shipped to Hong Kong for local distribution.

They found that a consignment of cocaine was to be collected from the airport and delivered to premises in Tsim Sha Tsui of Kowloon.

Narcotics Bureau and Customs and Excise Department officers arrested two men who were unpacking the cocaine. Four others suspected of being connected to the case were also arrested in the vicinity.

The cocaine was packed inside 20 boxes of cocoa powder. Investigations revealed that the drugs were shipped to Hong Kong from Ecuador via Panama and Amsterdam.

The six men were arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs, the press release said.
