13,000 Chinese pilgrims heading for Mecca
A RECORD number of 13,000 Chinese Muslim pilgrims from around the country are setting off for Mecca in Saudi Arabia to attend the annual haj starting from mid-November.
The first wave of pilgrims from Gansu Province in northwest China left on a chartered plane yestereday from the Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport, reported China News service.
Other worshippers from nearly 20 provinces and autonomous regions will take direct flights from Beijing, Lanzhou, Urumuqi, Yinchuan and Kunming.
