15 families take bullet train crash compensation
FIFTEEN families of victims of the deadly high-speed train crash in east China's Zhejiang Province had by yesterday agreed to take an increased compensation payment of 915,000 yuan (US$143,000), according to local authorities.
China's Ministry of Railways said late on Friday it will draw lessons from the crash and take concrete measures to improve safety management.
The crash revealed that safety controls in some railway enterprises remain weak, the ministry said. Railway personnel must improve their on-site controls and emergency response abilities, it added.
A high-speed train rammed into a stalled train near the city of Wenzhou last Saturday, leaving 40 people dead and 191 injured.
An official from the Shanghai Railway Bureau said "serious design flaws" in signaling equipment were to blame for the accident.
