15 money forgers sentenced to jail terms and death
A forgery ring of 15 people yesterday received sentences ranging from one year and eight months in jail to death penalty for producing counterfeit banknotes of nearly 160 million yuan (US$ 24.85 million) by a court in south China.
The main convict Xiao Guihong, who was sentenced to death, hired his relatives and friends to print fake banknotes in rented warehouses in Shenzhen and Dongguan in Guangdong Province from May 2009, said the Dongguan Intermediate People's Court.
The fake money ring was busted in September 2009 but about 56 million yuan of the 160 million yuan worth of fake bank notes had already entered circulation.
Xiao and other convicts said they would make an appeal after the verdict.
