16 nightclub guards on trial for attacking policemen
SIXTEEN nightclub security guards in Dongguan, Guangdong Province stood on trial yesterday for attacking police, who raided their club to make arrests, and wounding six officers, the Yangcheng Evening News reported.
On the night of January 9, 33 policemen from Shenzhen, also in Guangdong, stormed the Chang'an Chuanqi Nightclub in Dongguan to capture a major suspect of a mafia-style criminal gang.
When the police rushed into a room and took people under control, 15 security guards attacked the officers with knives and pipes. Six policemen were injured and one of them later suffered a grade-10 disability.
During the fight, the police fired warning shots that accidentally hit an on-looking cab driver who died of the bullet wound in the hospital.
The head of the 15 security guards was not at the scene when the fight occurred, but he instructed his men to leave the club to avoid police investigation. He was accused for destroying evidence.
All the defendants admitted their crimes in the court, saying they thought the policemen were bogus even though the officers had revealed their identities.
The court didn't announce a verdict yesterday, and the accidentally killed cab driver was not mentioned in the court hearing.
