16 pupils injured in latest overloaded minibus accident
EIGHTEEN people, including 16 pupils, were injured after an overloaded minibus hit a tree in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, this morning.
The 16 pupils, a teacher and the driver of the Bohai Primary School have been sent to hospitals. The most seriously injured passengers suffered bone fractures, but none was in a critical condition, Southern Metropolitan Daily reported today.
The minibus crashed into the tree while it was trying to avoid pedestrians, said Zeng Weihong, deputy director of the district education bureau, according to the newspaper.
The minibus, which is designed to carry 12 people, had 18 onboard when the accident happened. The vehicle was not a licensed school bus and was illegally transporting students, the report said.
