MORE than 16,000 people have been investigated in the past 18 months for dereliction of duty, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday. The cases involved 2,752 deaths and caused direct economic losses of 17.8 billion yuan (US$2.9 billion). More than 400 officials at or above county level were investigated, including two at ministerial level, it said.
