19 schoolgirls now involved in rape case

A TOTAL of 19 underage schoolgirls are now believed to have been raped by a karaoke club owner in Zhejiang Province.
On February 13 a teacher from Bihu Middle School in Bihu Town, Lishui City received a desperate call for help from a 13-year-old student, saying she had been raped by the club owner. The teacher found the girl and took her to the police, Zhang Jinbao, vice director of Liandu District public security bureau of Lishui City told a press conference yesterday.
The girl had been asked to go and play with two of her classmates and they all got into a car belonging to Chen Weijun, the club owner. He drove them to an isolated area and kept the girl in the car while her two classmates got out. He raped her in the car, the Oriental Morning Post reported today.
The next day police arrested Chen and another girl student who had helped procure other schoolgirls for Chen. Police also arrested a former village director who was involved in the scandal.
Police said yesterday no government officials were involved.
Police investigations began to unravel a string of rapes involving the club owner and other girls from the same school. Rumors say up to 42 girls from the school have been raped.
Lin Yun, the mother of the schoolgirl who has been arrested, said yesterday some of the girls had approached her daughter to get to know Chen. After Chen had raped them and given them money, they turned their tears into laughter.
How could they sell themselves so cheaply, Lin asked.
Another one of the victims, identified as Xiao Fei, said she was not only raped by Chen, but also by He Guobing, a former village director of Zhao Village. Xiao Fei said she had contracted a venereal disease and had been told by a doctor she would never be able to conceive.
On April 4 police detained He and charged him with rape.
