2 blood bank officials fired for ignoring donor
TWO blood station officials in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province were sacked yesterday because their station refused to give a long-time blood donor the priority to get free blood for her sick husband.
The woman surnamed Wang asked the blood station to provide blood because her husband was about to have a surgery. But the blood station refused, citing a blood shortage, and said she could get the blood if she would donate again.
Wang had donated 1,600 milliliter of blood in the past 10 years and had past the age limit for blood donation, which is 55 years old under the Chinese law.
Chen Xiaohua, the sacked director of the blood station, accepted the punishment but refused to admit her fault. She said that though regular donors and their family members enjoy priority for blood supply, the station would encourage them to donate first because it has a blood shortage, according to China News Service.
