2 children home alone found dead
Two children found dead in their home in a village in southwest China’s Guizhou Province on Tuesday were murdered, police said yesterday.
An investigation found that their father had left home on Sunday and their 17-year-old sister had gone to see a relative on Monday.
Police went to the home in Zhongxin in the city of Bijie’s Nanyong County after they received a report that the 15-year-old girl and her 12-year-old brother had died.
Their mother had died, leaving them in the care of the father.
It was the latest tragedy involving children in the poor mountainous region.
On June 9, four “left-behind” children, aged 5 to 13, died after drinking pesticide at their home in another village in Bijie.
Their deaths highlighted the plight of a vast number of poor children without parental care in China.
In 2012, five street children in Bijie died from carbon monoxide poisoning when burning charcoal for warmth in a roadside dumpster.
