2 cops, 1 reporter drowned as suspect tries to seize car
TWO police officers and a reporter died when a suspect tried to grab the steering wheel of the police van, causing it to plunge into a river in central China's Hunan Province yesterday, China News Service reported.
Zixing City authorities said the police van carried three officers, one journalist and one suspect when it fell into the Xiaodong River around 1:50pm yesterday. They were on the way to a local police station.
Policeman Xie Minping, policewoman Yang Miaoqing, and journalist Li Xiaohua were killed in the accident. The third policeman Zhu Jing and the suspect surnamed Li were injured and are now being treated in a hospital, officials said.
Initial investigation showed the suspect tried to grab the steering wheel on the way and caused the van to lose control and fell into the river.
