2 crash victims cremated; driver assists investigation

TWO victims of 39 passengers killed in Saturday's train crash were cremated in Wenzhou this morning. Officials said cremation would continue once DNA tests confirm the identities of other victims.

Railway authority also announced today that each victim family will get a compensation of 500,000 yuan, instead of 175,000 yuan as previously predicted.

The driver of the stalled train which was rear-ended by another train began to assist the accident investigation, railway authority confirmed.

Several passengers on his train claimed to have heard the driver saying after the crash, "I told them I could pass the train through but they ordered me to stop."

Witnesses said the driver, under 30 years old, nearly collapsed after the accident. But he still tried to help trapped passengers to escape the wreckage.

But officials did not revealed any information about the driver.
