2 former justices face bribe claims

TWO former justices from the Higher People's Court of Chongqing are under investigation for allegedly accepting a large amount of bribes, according to the spokesman of the municipal government.
Zhang Tao, former vice director of the court, and Wu Xiaoqing, the court's chief bailiff, have been referred to judicial departments, Wen Tianping said yesterday.
Zhang also served Southwest University of Political Science and Law as a part-time professor, while Wu was the president of Chongqing Judges College, the Website of Beijing-based People's Daily reported yesterday.
Zhang and Wu add to an expanding list of senior officials from Chongqing's judicial departments being investigated since the city launched a crackdown on organized crime and corrupt officials.
Wen Qiang, former director of Chongqing's department of justice, was seized by officers on August 7.
Peng Changjian, deputy director of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau, was put under investigation on September 4.
Mao Jianping, deputy prosecutor of the No.1 Branch of Chongqing People's Procuratorate, has been put under "double designation" status.
Mao allegedly offered gangs protection during some criminal investigations.
Chen Honggang, traffic unit chief of Chongqing's Public Security Bureau, was also put under "double designation"on September 8 for allegedly providing protection for gangs.
