2 hurt as helicopter crashes in cornfield

TWO crew members were injured when a helicopter crashed in the northeastern city of Harbin yesterday, local authorities said.

The helicopter came down in a cornfield near a village in Pingfang Township on the outskirts of Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province, at about 11am, a spokesman for the city's emergency affairs office said.

Two crew members were injured and taken to hospital. No one on the ground was killed or injured.

Heilongjiang was the scene of a fatal air crash on August 24 when a Brazilian-made ERJ-190 jet operated by Henan Airlines crashed while landing at Lindu Airport in Yichun City, killing 42 people and injuring 54 others on board. The accident was the deadliest commercial plane crash in China since 2004.
