2 in custody for spreading factory blast rumor
TWO men in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, were held in administrative detention for spreading rumors of a major fire and explosion in a chemical plant on the Internet yesterday.
A thick yellow haze enveloped Wuhan yesterday and authorities said the city suffered severe air pollution as farmers in surrounding areas burned straw in the fields, a local news website, Cnhubei.com, reported today.
But the rumors made by the two men surnamed Yi and Yu caused panic among local residents. They were tracked down and detained last night. Both admitted to their misconduct and expressed regrets, police said.
