2 infants pay price for parents’ discord

PARENTS’ ire was the cause of two infants’ deaths in two separate incidents in China in recent days. Both were innocent victims of unexpected rage and cool disdain.

An 8-day-old baby boy died after being thrown out of a high-rise building during a quarrel between his parents in Xi’an, capital of the northwest Shaanxi Province, the local Huangshang News reported yesterday.

The baby fell from the 11th floor of the high-rise and died on the spot about 9:30am yesterday. The parents have been detained by police, who are investigating the case.

Police said the young couple suffered great mental anguish after the boy died and were taken to a hospital for diagnosis.

In another incident, a 16-month-old boy was beheaded by his mother four days ago in Anguo City in Hebei Province, Baoding Evening News reported yesterday.

The mother, surnamed Feng, buried her son’s body and, out of fear, called her brother to tell him about the “accident,” She was taken into custody two hours later after her brother called police.

Feng told police she killed the boy because she was estranged from her husband, and she didn’t want her son to suffer when he grew up.

The 37-year-old twice-divorcee married for the third time in 2011. The husband told police he spent four months of the year in big cities such as Shanghai to earn a living and said Feng detested the family’s poverty and always dreamed of buying houses and cars.

Feng is to undergo a mental evaluation, police said.
