2 kids killed by parents over study discipline

TWO girls have been beaten to death by their mother or father in the past week in two cities over study issues.

A nine-year-old girl reportedly died on Saturday in Shunde District of Guangzhou, according to yesterday's Guangzhou Daily.

Her father allegedly beat her as he dragged her to an evening class and she refused to follow his orders, neighbors told the newspaper. The girl fell and her head hit the ground. Her father sent her to a hospital but she died.

Her father, a Fujian Province native who ran a noodle restaurant, had her body cremated immediately and disappeared with his family.

On March 30, a three-year-old girl died at her home in Jiashan City of east China's Zhejiang Province, after allegedly being beaten by her mother the night before because she failed to recite a poem.

Her mother had told police the girl was injured because she stumbled.

But forensic research indicated the mother was lying. The girl died from massive bleeding in the brain, meaning she had been hit on her head before death. The mother finally confessed.

She noticed the girl's abnormality the night before, but decided to wait and see because of her tight purse.

She only got 200 yuan (US$29) a month from her husband, who was working in Jiangsu Province, to support three children, two boys and a girl, she told the police. The mother is on bail on charge of negligent homicide.
