2 more beverage poison victims in Changchun
The city government of Changchun, capital of Jilin Province said two more victims reported symptoms of poisoning after drinking the same Coca-Cola product which killed a 10-year-old boy and put his mother into coma.
The two victims, their information unavailable, have recovered after treatment in a local hospital. City officials said the four victims in the two separate cases were all poisoned by a highly toxic pesticide.
Changchun police said the pesticide was found in the remaining contents of a bottle of strawberry-flavored Minute Maid Pulpy Super Milky, which the boy and his mother on Monday evening.
The boy surnamed Chu and his mother surnamed Liu bought the milky drink on their way home after dinner in a restaurant. The boy died and his mother fell into coma, police said.
A city official surnamed Liu said investigations into the two poisoning cases may take two more days before clues show up.
Tesco, a major supermarket chain in China, said it had removed Minute Maid Pulpy Super Milky from the shelves. Other supermarkets such as Carrefour and Lotus said they would stop selling the product as soon as they receive an order from local authorities.
