2 sentenced to death for mine blast that claimed 17 lives
A court in north China's Shanxi Province today sentenced 13 people to prison terms and death for a coal mine blast that killed 17 workers and injured 44.
The boss of Liugou Coal Mine, Cai Yongsheng, was sentenced to death for illegal stocking and trading of explosives, said the Linfen Intermediate People's Court today.
Cai's colleague, Liu Xiaojun, was also given a death penalty for illegal manufacturing, transporting, stocking and trading of explosives. The court also fined Liu 5,000 yuan (US$ 749) for drug trafficking.
Other convicts received jail terms for their roles in the fatal accident on July 31.
