2 top university staff removed for exam fraud
Two officials of a university in northeast China have been suspended over alleged irregularities during MBA exams.
One of the directors of the Harbin University of Science and Technology MBA center and a deputy head of the university’s Graduate School were suspended following investigations by authorities, said Zhao Hong, vice president of the university.
Zhao confirmed there were irregularities in this year’s MBA recruitment with students using wireless equipment to cheat in the exams.
The MBA center violated rules and cooperated with Beijing Zhihengzhi Training Center in recruitment, Zhao told Xinhua.
Three MBA “teachers” of Harbin University of Science and Technology helped students to get examination passes which should have been obtained from the university campus, China Central Television reported.
The center then trained candidates to cheat in the examinations via wireless equipment.
They were told to turn off the headphones to pass the safety check, CCTV reported.
The center charged every student 48,000 yuan (US$7,939). An anonymous employee told CCTV they had to spend money to build good relations with university officials.
Zhao said rules were not strictly implemented in some examination rooms and added that those held accountable will be dealt with seriously.
Recruitment for the university’s MBA center for 2015 has also been suspended while police have launched investigation against any possible involvement of those who illegally obtained state secrets as papers for national exams are listed as confidential.
