20 detained for assaulting tourists in Hunan

POLICE have detained 20 suspects who allegedly assaulted 19 tourists in Fenghuang County in central China's Hunan Province over a traffic dispute.
The victims from southwest China's Chongqing claimed one suspect even threatened them with a gun in the fight last Wednesday. Three of the tourists were seriously injured and are being treated in a Chongqing hospital, Chongqing Daily reported today.
Four government officials from Fenghuang, including the deputy county chief, visited the three tourists in the hospital yesterday. They apologized and promised to hold the criminals responsible, the report said.
The group of visitors, including a four-year-old boy, was heading back to their hometown in several cars. One of the cars almost hit a minibus while overtaking it.
Even though they stopped and got out of their car to apologize, the minibus driver and conductor kept rebuking them. The dispute escalated with people from both sides damaging each other's vehicles.
The fight lasted about an hour until police arrived and an officer fired a shot into the air.
