20 detained in Xi’an for violent brawl that killed 1
TWENTY suspects were detained by police for violent behavior in a case in which dozens of people in four cars chased a jeep and beat up its occupants in Xi’an in central China’s Shaanxi Province.
One person was killed earlier and four others were seriously injured which followed a dispute over a local contract.
Police also seized a shotgun, 31 shotgun bullets, 35 small-bore gun bullets, six cars and knives, rods and bricks.
They are still on the lookout for other suspects in the incident that involved 30 people.
The dispute arose because the director of a village committee in Miaojiazhai Village in Yanta District wanted the contract of the earthwork of a construction project. After being overlooked, villagers went to the construction site on December 13 in an effort to stop work but failed. The next day, armed men returned to the site and beat up the workers. A person, surnamed Liu, shot and killed one person with a shotgun and seriously injured two others.
Two workers tried to escape in a jeep but they were chased by people in four cars.
The cars that included BMW, Benz and Land Rover, caught up with the jeep and thrashed the two workers.
