2,000 detained in anti-drug raid on nightclub

POLICE in Dongguan, a city in southern Guangdong Province, are hunting for a hotel owner after many people were found taking drugs in his hotel yesterday, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.
The Junhuang Hotel is a favorite haunt of drug addicts in Zhongtang Town. Early yesterday morning, about 1,000 policemen armed with guns raided the KTV club in the hotel and seized nearly 2,000 customers there. These people were sent to different police stations for urine test and questioning.
A police official told the newspaper that most of the people they detained might just enjoy their night life there.
But the wife of one detainee said her husband often took drugs in the KTV club. "Every time I found him in the club I saw about 40 to 50 people inhaling ketamine, hemp and ecstasy there," she said.
An insider said the hotel owner, surnamed Ma, is a powerful man in Zhongtang Town. He also runs several underground casinos and keeps hundreds of bullies as guards, the paper said.
