200-yuan-each in compensation for passengers on nose-landing plane

Each of the 37 passengers on a plane that hit the runway nose first on Tuesday night at the Xinzheng International Airport in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, will get 200 yuan (US$32) in compensation, the airline said today.

The Chinese-made MA-60 passenger plane was touching down the runway when its front landing gear withdrew unexpectedly, causing its nose to skid on the tarmac, Joyair officials said.

All the passengers and seven crew members on board were safe, Civil Aviation Administration of China officials said.

The Joyair Flight 1533 was flying from Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, to Zhengzhou when the accident occurred around 6:30pm.

The airport was closed for four hours before resuming operation. A total of 114 inbound and outbound flights were delayed.
