21 for trial over July riot in Urumqi

THE procuratorate of Urumqi yesterday brought charges against 21 suspects in July's riot.

The riot in the capital of northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region left 197 people dead and more than 1,600 injured.

The city's procuratorate said it had instituted public prosecutions in the Intermediate People's Court of Urumqi against 21 suspects involved in six cases.

The cases allege intentional homicide and arson committed by Abdukerim Abduwayit; intentional homicide, arson and robbery committed by four suspects whose leader was Gheni Yusup; intentional homicide, arson, robbery and intentional damage to property committed by 11 suspects led by Ahmatjan Moming; intentional homicide, robbery and arson committed by Alim Metyusup and Tayirejan Abulimit; intentional homicide and arson committed by Azizijan Yasin; and intentional homicide committed by Han Junbo and Liubo.
